Feasibility/master planning study for a visitor centre
Background:
In recognition of the importance of the World Heritage Site inscription made by UNESCO of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal, The Leisure Consultancy was commissioned, as part of a multi-disciplinary team led by Arup, to undertake a feasibility/master planning study to determine how best to celebrate this designation.
Outputs from the study included:
- Preparation of a Baseline Report/Evidence Base examining the tourism, heritage, recreation and leisure opportunities in the area
- Identification of the mix and scale of facilities to be developed in the visitor centre including: an education/resource centre; a cafe & retail area
- Potential demand generators including schools, the local community, heritage & related visitors to the area
