The importance of the Visitor Economy has come more to the forefront of government and agency thinking partly as a consequnece of the impact of COVID-19. The value of the sector (pre-COVID-19) was highlighted by the fact that it was the sixth largest industry in the UK and was predicted to grow at an annual rate of 3.6% through to 2025 - much faster than the overall UK economy (at 3% per annum) and indeed significantly faster than the sectors such as manufacturing, construction and retail. The industry was expected to be valued at over £257bn by 2025, representing a little under 10% of UK GDP and supporting of the order of 3.8 m jobs. (Source: VisitBritain)
