Peak District National Park Authority
Assignment:
Preparation of a Strategic Masterplan
Background:
The Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) owns and manages 34 miles of multi-use, traffic free trails which link with other trails in the area. As one of the key assets of the PDNPA, there is a desire to safeguard their long term future through sustainable development which would tap into commercial opportunities, thereby supporting their on-going maintenance and development.
With this forming the background, the PDNPA commissioned the preparation of a Strategic Masterplan which would identify a range of options based on a review of: the current trading performance of the Trails encompassing;
- bike hire
- retail, catering,
- car parking;
- market trends;
- and competitive supply.
The findings of this appraisal (undertaken jointly by Atkins and the Leisure Consultancy) identified a range of opportunities to add to the walking/cycling experience and considered the financial & resource implications of these options.
