The Football Association (FA)
Assignment:
FA Umbro National Football Centre (St Georges Park) Comprehensive Business Plan
Background:
The FA had been considering the creation of The Umbro National Football Centre (now St George's Park) for some time with a particular emphasis on player development, from grass roots to elite, coach development and to create a home for the ever-developing FA Learning Department.
The Leisure Consultancy team and Drivers Jonas Sport were commissioned by the FA to produce a comprehensive Business Plan for the FA Umbro National Football Centre. Preparation of the Business Plan informed the facility design and individual components of the proposed development resulting in a number of refinements being made to the concept resulting in a revised brief and capital budget.
The study process was wide ranging and included a number of different elements namely:
- Site & Area Appraisal - a review of The Umbro National Football Centre site, Burton and the wider area
- Data Review - including the FA's intentions and those of potential partners
- Review of Market Trends - within relevant markets, including: football; leisure; health; fitness; and education
- Review of Supply & Demand - taking into consideration existing (and planned) facilities of relevance and assessment of potential demand generators
- Financial Appraisal - based on key user groups such as FA Learning, the wider football 'family' and the corporate market
- Economic Appraisal - evaluating the monetary and non-monetary benefits of the development proposal
Now developed, it is clear that the Football Centre will be instrumental in establishing England as a renewed world force. The ability to perform on the international stage as an equal will be considerably improved by this development.
