The Leisure Consultancy appointed by British Waterways to undertake research into Sailing Links between the Southern North Sea/English Channel area and the Scottish Canals

A European funded initiative, the focus of these two studies is to evaluate the potential for developing links for yachting and motorboat tourism across the North Sea , particularly between Scotland , Scandinavia , North- East Germany and the North Netherlands , optimising the routes provided by the Caledonian Canal and the Forth and Clyde Canal .

The output of these studies is to comprise an Action Plan which identified the best ways of promoting the Scottish canals to the recreational boating market in the southern North Sea and Irish Sea regions. It is also anticipated that both studies will inform a further study relating to the Forth & Clyde Canal which is focused on potential development options to improve access to the eastern section of the canal through the River Carron at Grangemouth.
