Commissioned to prepare an evidence base for proposed tourism development of the Churnett Valley Railway
Appointed by Moorland & City Railways Limited (MCR), The Leisure Consultancy supported by Mott MacDonald were commissioned to prepare an evidence base in relation to the proposed tourism related development by MCR of the Churnett Valley Railway together with providing direct access to Alton towers and re-connecting Leek to the national rail network.
The work of the consultant team focused on: assessing the likely increase in visitor numbers on the Churnett Valley Railway, as a result of the connection to Leek; future potential increases in visitor numbers resulting in the planned extension to Stoke; and an assessment of the resulting economic benefits that could result.
Given our previous work in this area, this was an interesting project which highlighted the growth in heritage railways and the positive impact on visitor numbers.
